Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK
Indefinite Leave To Remain in the UK or ILR UK is the permission for UK Permanent Residency or UK Settlement. Indefinite Leave To Remain in UK is granted based on your continuous length of stay in the UK under eligible categories such as HSMP or Tier 1 and Work Permit or Tier 2. If your HSMP was approved before 3 April 2006, you would be eligible for Indefinite Leave To Remain after 4 years continuous stay in the UK as against 5 years required under current Immigration Rules
If you are aged 18-64 in the United Kingdom you should show sufficient knowledge of English language and life in the United Kingdom to apply for settlement (indefinite leave to remain).
- have English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) level three standard; or
- undertake a short test called ‘Life in the UK Test’.
